The STONES RIVER CHAMBER PLAYERS is an ensemble-in-residence at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The 2003-04 Season marks the 15th season for this group, which has become one of the premiere chamber music groups in the region. In addition to their concert series each year on the campus of MTSU the group also tours regularly throughout the southeastern United States and made their first European tour in the Spring of 2003. They have performed numerous times on public radio, television and also recorded a CD, "Music for a Farce" of music by American composers.

The total performing ensemble of the STONES RIVER CHAMBER PLAYERS concists of some dozen plus performers. The number of musicians performing on any one concert varies, depending entirely on the repertory being performed. The group has the flexibility to perform duets, octets and everything in between. Although the group performs compositions form all periods of music, they have become well known for their exciting performances of unusual and interesting compositions form the twentieth century, as well as their stylish and dramatic readings of the more traditional repertory. A number of composers have written works specifically for the Stones River Chamber Players. The last season, for example, saw the premieres of four new works written for the group.

It is so refreshing to hear a group break away from the ordinary and dare to try something different....
That the ensemble has been enthusiastically received as can be noted in the following headlines from reviews: "PLAYERS PRESENT PERFECT PERFORMANCE" and "CHAMBER PLAYERS DAZZLE, SHOW STYLE AND ARTISTRY." One reviewer wrote Between performing odd and unusual pieces and the 'normal' literature with a slant, they provide something different for your musical appetite. It was an excellent concert from an excellent group. My hat is off to the Stones River Chamber Players."

Performances have included the highly acclaimed productions of Stavinsky's L'histoire du Soldat with the Tennessee Dance Theater, Peter Maxwell Davies' Eight Songs for a Mad King with the theatrical realization by Karen Miller of the Minnesota opera, concerts for 2 seasons at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, South Carolina, the Classical Music Center Series in Cincinnati and the Cathedral Concerts series in New Orleans as well as concerts in France, Germany and Switzerland.
