Welcome to Children's Choirs 2009-2010

In children's choir, your child will learn to use his/her voice:

  • Learn to sing beautiful vowels
  • Learn to sing distinct consonants
  • Learn to read music
  • Learn songs of the faith

In choir, your child will be able to share his/her voice as worship leaders:

  • Participate in worship regularly
  • Participate in special services
  • Participate in music mission trips

In choir, your child will learn how to find his/her voice:

  • Learn the best sitting and standing positions for singing
  • Learn how to breathe correctly for singing
  • Learn to find his/her singing voice

These bullets were adapted from Susan Kirby's 2009 kick-off letter to parents.
A Word document of Susan's letter is available for download.

Choir Registration

Determine this day the importance of your child's service commitment to the church! Complete a registration form as soon as possible, so that when school starts, you will already have tended to choir registration and marked September 9 on your family calendar as the first rehearsal date of the new choir year.

Rehearsals are held in connection with the Wednesday School of Christian Living. The dinner line opens at 5:15 for choir families. Children are dismissed from Courtenay Hall at 5:55 to allow rehearsals to begin at 6:00.

Registration forms have been sent to all current families with the May choir letter. Others interested in children's choirs for fall may find forms in the literature areas around the church or by printing the online registration form and the permission and release form. Forms should be turned in to Daphne Garey. For questions, contact Susan Kirby at 298-9540 or skirby@fpcnashville.org.

*In an effort to retain experienced singers through their middle school years, the Music Department staff has decided to designate the Celebration Singers as the choir for unchanged voices in grades 4-8. It is being renamed DOXOLOGY 1, with a focus of better preparing singers for DOXOLOGY 2 (grades 9-12).
