FPC Weekend at NaCoMe

Changes in Latitudes with the Beatitudes
August 6-8, 2010 • Sunday Worship: 10:30 a.m.

Relaxation, fellowship, serenity, fun, friends, family, worship, games, songs, Bible study, campfires, s’mores, streams, canoes, tradition, meditation, events, naps, ping pong and good food are all great words to describe the camping experience at NaCoMe. This is a wonderful weekend for people of all ages and stages.

Jesus’ teaching to us in The Beatitudes is all about how to be blessed by God for living a life worthy of his love and gift of salvation.  This year we will welcome Mike Pentecost, Senior Pastor at East Brentwood Presbyterian Church, who will show us how the teachings in The Beatitudes can help us change our latitudes and attitudes as we go about our daily lives.

So come cool off in the spring fed creek, hunt for gold and silver, savor the homemade sweet rolls, and enjoy days reminiscent of a simpler time…no cell phones, computers, televisions, video games…just time spent rocking on the porch, visiting with friends and making memories that will last a lifetime.

The atmosphere at NaCoMe is very casual; jeans, shorts, T-shirts and tennis shoes may be worn at all events. You will feel like you are camping, but with a cabin and all the delicious meals provided. Spend your time making new friends and playing with your church family.

What Is NaCoMe?
In 1838, handbills were circulated advertising the “Healing Waters at Beaver Dam Springs — For the Fashionable and Fastidious.” At that time, it was said to be the highest and coolest point between New Orleans and Cincinnati. Beaver Dam Springs saw the height of its popularity as a summer resort in the years before the Civil War when “springs” were the in thing!

In 1940, NaCoMe was incorporated as a self-supporting Conference and Camping Center for use by the Nashville, Columbia and Memphis Presbyteries. NaCoMe was named for the three presbyteries. Most of the older buildings date from that time period. Today, Nashville and Columbia have become the Middle Tennessee Presbytery. Mr. Henry Hibbs, a member of First Presbyterian Church, was on the first Board of Governors. At least one church member has been on the Board ever since.

NaCoMe is located on 644 acres of beautiful forests and streams off Highway 100, near Centerville. The mission of NaCoMe is to provide a meeting place in a camp setting which is safe, well kept and filled with a Christian atmosphere.

Where Is NaCoMe?
NaCoMe is located two miles off of Highway 100, approximately 12 miles west of Centerville. Watch for a small sign on the left hand side of the road. You will turn right onto NaCoMe Road. Specific directions are as follows:

From Nashville-Area to Centerville, options are:
• Take I-40 West to exit 172. Take a left off of the exit ramp. Travel down Hwy 46 approximately 10 miles until you get to a four way stop. Take a right onto Hwy 100, and continue on that road until you get to Centerville.

• Take Hwy 100 West until you get to Centerville.

• Take the Natchez Trace to Hwy 50 exit. Turn right and travel Hwy 50 West toward Centerville until you reach Hwy 100. Turn left onto Hwy 100 South. (Note: you will be approximately 1 mile from the Centerville square towards NaCoMe, so please make the mileage adjustments by subtracting the mile from the Centerville-NaCoMe directions below.)

From Centerville to NaCoMe, follow Hwy 100 through the square staying right as you pass through it.  (Note: Hwy 100’s name changes from Hwy 100 West to Hwy 100 South at the Centerville square.)  Continue on the same road 11.4 miles. You will see a green Hwy sign that says NaCoMe ¼ mile. Take a right onto NaCoMe Road and follow until you get into the camp which is approximately 2 miles down.
