Organist Balint Karosi in Concert - Monday, November 5, 2007 - 7:30 p.m.

First Presbyterian Church/Nashville and the Nashville Chapter of the American Guild of Organists jointly present Organist, Balint Karosi in concert on Monday, November 5, 2007 at 7:30 p.m.

Bálint Karosi won first prize in the 2006 Miami International Organ Competition. His listeners also deemed him the winner of the Audience Prize. He received a cash award for each prize and will offer a full-length recital at the Church of the Epiphany in South Miami on the 2006-2007 Great Music for a Great Space Concert Series. Mr. Karosi, born and raised in Budapest, studied clarinet and organ at the Bartok Conservatory. From 1997 to 2003, he continued his studies at the Liszt Academy with János Palur and Bela Kovacs. In 1999 he was awarded a full scholarship from the Swiss Federation to study in Geneva at the Conservatoire Superieure de Musique de Geneve with Lionel Rogg and Thomas Friedli. In 2001, he was awarded the Prix de Virtuosite avec Distinction in organ and clarinet performance. Currently, Mr. Karosi is enrolled in the Historical Performance program at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where he is studying organ with James David Christie. He previously earned the Artist Diploma at Oberlin. Mr. Karosi is organist at the historical First Church in Oberlin. His honors include an award for best modern improvisation at the organ competition in Brno, second prize at Prague's Spring International Clarinet Competition, and the first prize at the International Organ Contest in Dublin. Recently, he won first prize at the Arthur Poister Organ Competition in Syracuse, New York, and second prize at the St. Maurice International Organ Competition in Switzerland. He was awarded the Westfield Concert Scholar Award for 2005-2006 to play concerts on the most distinguished organs in the nation.
