Presbyterian Heritage Tour 2005

The purpose and mission of our trip was to the same as our mission for First Presbyterian church, "To know Christ, to make Him known, and to exhibit His love through worship, education and service." The plan was to worship regularly together using a specially made devotional guide, to listen to Todd Jones explain our Presbyterian heritage and guide us in worship, to visit important landmarks in Scotland making new friends as we traveled, and sing anthems of our faith. We also collected toiletry items, socks and underwear and gave them to the Parish church of St Cuthbert to support their ministry to the homeless.

With a voice of singing, declare ye this and let it be heard…The choir brought the sound of music to the parish of Elie, St Cuthbert's, St Giles cathedral, the chapel in Iona, and Stirling Cathedral. The concerts opened with our pronouncement that "God is my Sovereign" by J. S. Bach, followed by the "Te Deum" by Joseph Haydn, which is a song of praise to God, the father, son and holy ghost. William Billings anthem announced that "The Lord is Risen Indeed", then Robert Shaw and Alice Parkers pieces "Wondrous Love" and "I Will Arise" speak of the love of Christ, for us all. We praised God with "Sing ye Praises to Our King" by Aaron Copland. "Thou Shalt Know Him" by Mark Sirett, speaks of the second coming, and our assurance that we will recognize Jesus not by the sound of drums, or His manners, or His airs, or any thing He wears, not a crown or His gown, but by the holy harmony which His coming makes in us. Ain't Got Time to Die and Set Down Servant were well loved spirituals that speak about our response to God's love for us. We ended each concert with the John Stainer anthem "God So Loved the World."

The mission of our tour was to tell the story of our faith through song to five different audiences in Scotland. We pray that those that experienced our gift of music will come to know Christ in a new way.
