Jitro Czech Girls’ Choir

Considered the best Girls' Chorus in the World, the Czech Girls' Choir (Jitro), from the East Bohemian city of Hradec Kralove, was founded in 1973. With its first international success in 1977, they quickly became recognized as one of the best choirs in Czechoslovakia, under the direction of Jiri Skopal. The Czech Girls' Choir has toured internationally for over fifteen years, and returns to Tennessee for the first time since 1993, when they performed in the Tennessee Performing Arts Center’s Polk Hall. Jitro's program will feature an extensive repertoire from sixteenth century polyphony to contemporary music - sure to resound in the renowned acoustics of the First Presbyterian Sanctuary.

Weston Jennings, Organist in Concert on Sunday, August 21, 2011 at 3:00 p.m.


Weston Jennings is a current student at the Eastman School of Music studying organ with Hans Davidsson and harpsichord with William Porter.  Prior to his arrival at Eastman, Mr. Jennings was a student at the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan and the Levine School of Music in Washington, D.C.  Upon completion of his studies at Interlochen, he graduated with honors and the Fine Arts Award.  His former organ teachers include David Higgs, Thomas Bara and William McCoy.  He has won first prize in the Westminster Choir College Organ Competition and the Richmond Symphony Student Concerto Competition.  He has been the substitute Choir Director and Organist of Fredericksburg United Methodist Church in Virginia and is currently the organist at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation in Rochester.  During the summer, he assists Thomas Bara in teaching organists of all ages at the Interlochen Summer Arts Camp.  Recent engagements have included recitals at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and for the Northern Virginia and Evansville, Indiana AGO chapters. The concert is Free and Open to the Public. 129th Army Band in Concert on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at 3:00 p.m.


 In Remembrance of 9/11, The 129th Army Band, Tennessee Army National Guard, will present a concert Sunday, September 11 at 3:00 pm in the First Presbyterian Church Sanctuary. The concert is free and open to the public. The 129th Army Band of the Tennessee Army National Guard has a long and distinguished history, serving Tennessee and our country in peacetime as well as during armed conflict. The 129th Army Band was one of two National Guard Bands called to active duty during Operation Desert Storm. The 129th Army Band has been the official band for the Tennessee inaugural, since Governor Gordon Browning and represented Tennessee in the 1992 Presidential Inaugural Parade in Washington, D.C. The 129th Army Band of the Tennessee Army National Guard is headquartered at Houston Barracks in Nashville, Tennessee.
